Luísa Magalhães currently holds the position of Assistant Professor Theories of Communication, Organizational Communication and Sociology of Communication, at the Catholic University of Portugal. She works at the Braga Regional Centre since 2007.
Born in Braga, Luísa was trained at Minho University, first in International Relations and then in English and Portuguese Teaching, as undergraduate. She then took a Master degree in Theories of Communication (1997) and a PhD in Communication Sciences (2009).
Her research interests and publications revolve around the three main thematic interests of her life: Communication, Children and Toys. Much of the work done so far regards toy advertising and organizational communication.
From 1986 to 1993 Luísa worked as interpreter for English and French as secondary job; several congresses and professional conferences included themes from industry, medicine and education. She also worked as a freelance reporter filming, editing and reproducing videos and photographies.
Teaching started in middle school, around 1982, first teaching French and then English, also in secondary school.
In 1993 Luisa was invited to work as a lecturer at Minho University, at the Communication Science Department, only to leave it in 2007, when she entered the Catholic University of Portugal.
She has been the Head of the Pedagogical Committee for the Communication Sciences degree, 2014-2016.
Luisa is a founding member of the National Association for Communication Sciences Research.
A member of ITRA since 2005, she is serving the ITRA Board since 2011, having chaired the conference organizing committee for the 7th ITRA World Congress ,Toys as Language and Communication, at her Faculty, in Braga.
She is now the Scientific Coordinator of the Digital Communication Master Degree at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Catholic University of Portugal and she is supervising a post-doctorate in Communication.
